Curator allows any course to be created as a "Master" session, which serves as the parent course to one or more connected "Child" sessions.
The Master session determines how editing, publishing, and other course permissions are set for each Child session. Authors of the Master course also determine how Child course(s) receive course updates and changes-automatically, manually, or not at all.
Why did we do this? Child sessions provide maximum flexibility and ultimate control over the customization, localization/translation, and publishing of your content and courses. Maybe some course sessions should automatically update alongside the Master course; maybe another session should be notified of changes, but needs session authors to manually approve the updates and make sure the changes align with the intended audience of that Child session.
Let's take a look at how to create a Child session and review the different options available.
Once logged in to your Curator account, enter the CREATE area.
1. Click CREATE to navigate to the courses page
Locate your course and enter the course sessions page.
1. Scroll down to find or use the search bar and locate your course
2. Click Sessions to enter the course sessions page. Alternatively, click the ellipsis(...) on the bottom right of the course and select Sessions from the pop-up menu
1. Name the session, customize the session's reference code and description
2. Select the type of Child session you'd like to create
Automatically updated from Course Master: The child session will be automatically updated, any changes (new content added, existing content edited) that occur in the Master course will be reflected in the child session. The child session can be independently edited, content can be added, edited, or removed from the child session.
Automatically updated from Course Master(Strict Mode): The child session will be automatically updated, any changes (new content added, existing content edited) that occur in the Master course will be reflected in the child session. The child session's source content CANNOT be independently edited, content can be added, edited, or removed from the child session.
Manually updated from Course Master: The child session will be notified of any changes (new content added, existing content edited) that occur in the Master course. The child session author can then review and accept or reject these changes. Content can be independently edited, content can be added, edited, or removed from the child session.
Not linked to Course Master: The child session will NOT be notified of any changes (new content added, existing content edited) that occur in the Master course. Content can be independently edited, content can be added, edited, or removed from the child session.
